DFW Weekend Shortlist: Things to Do October 9–11, 2026
DFW Weekend Shortlist | What to do this weekend in the Mid-Cities, Tarrant County & beyond.
October weekends in DFW are getting busy—in a good way. This weekend brings free outdoor music, fall festivals, local makers, food trucks, family activities and a few bigger experiences if you’re ready to venture beyond the Mid-Cities.
Here are my picks for October 9–11, starting close to home in Bedford, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and Fort Worth.
TOP PICK: Beer, Brats & More | Bedford
Saturday, October 10 | 4–9 PM
Bedford Library Greenspace | Free admission + free parking
This one checks almost every box for an easy local fall evening: live music, the Bedford Library Pumpkin Patch, food trucks, bratwurst, sweets, Texas craft beer and wine. Admission and parking are both free; food and drinks are purchased separately. Proceeds support the Bedford Public Library Foundation.
Why it made the Shortlist: It’s hyperlocal, low-cost and easy to turn into a casual Saturday night without committing to a major festival.
Autumn Sounds: 80s Gadgets | North Richland Hills
Saturday, October 10 | 7 PM
T. Oscar Trevino Municipal Center Plaza
80s Gadgets closes out NRH’s Autumn Sounds concert series Saturday night. It’s an outdoor concert built for lawn chairs and blankets, with an easy neighborhood-event feel rather than a big-ticket concert experience. Current local event listings show free entry.
Why it made the Shortlist: Free outdoor live music close to the Mid-Cities is exactly the kind of event this guide is designed to surface.
Day Out With Thomas | Grapevine
Friday–Sunday, October 9–11 | Multiple departures
Grapevine Vintage Railroad | Tickets approximately $26+
For families with younger kids, Thomas the Tank Engine rolls into downtown Grapevine this weekend. Admission includes a real train ride with Thomas plus live entertainment, photo opportunities with Sir Topham Hatt, lawn games, hands-on activities and the Music Corner. Advance reservations are encouraged because guests select a specific departure time.
Day Out With Thomas details and tickets
Why it made the Shortlist: It’s more of a splurge than most of my weekly picks, but it’s a distinctive Grapevine experience for families with toddlers and younger elementary-age kids.
Artisan Circle Street Market | Fort Worth
Saturday, October 10 | 11 AM–4 PM
816 Foch Street | Free
Crockett Street becomes an open-air market in Fort Worth’s Cultural District with 25+ local artisans, artists and brands, plus food and drinks from nearby restaurants, live music and DJs, crafts and photo opportunities. Admission is free.
Artisan Circle Street Market details
Why it made the Shortlist: A good grown-up or date-day option that supports local makers and can easily be paired with lunch or a Cultural District stop.
Fall Into Flower Mound Festival | Flower Mound
Friday, October 9 | 5–10 PM
Saturday, October 10 | Noon–10 PM
The River Walk | 4110 River Walk Drive
Flower Mound’s two-day fall festival brings live entertainment, carnival games, vendor booths, a hay maze, pumpkin photo garden, kids crafts, inflatables, food trucks and more to The River Walk. Saturday’s music lineup includes School of Rock, The 8tracks, an Eagles tribute and Le Freak.
Fall Into Flower Mound Festival details
Why it made the Shortlist: It gives you the full fall-festival experience without having to head deep into Dallas.
River Legacy Fall Festival | Arlington
Saturday, October 10 | 10 AM–7 PM
River Legacy Nature Center | $8 ages 3+
River Legacy mixes fall festivities with nature: guided hikes, live animal presentations, hands-on crafts, games, outdoor challenges, a pumpkin patch, food vendors and live entertainment.
River Legacy Fall Festival details
Why it made the Shortlist: This is a particularly good choice for families who want something more outdoorsy and interactive than a traditional vendor festival.
Christina’s Weekend Trio
If I were building one Saturday from this list, I’d keep it simple:
Morning: Artisan Circle Street Market in Fort Worth
Late afternoon: Beer, Brats & More in Bedford
Evening: 80s Gadgets at Autumn Sounds in North Richland Hills
Three completely different experiences—and all within the Tarrant County/Mid-Cities side of the Metroplex.
Worth the Drive
DFW Italian Festival | Irving — Levy Event Plaza hosts the fourth annual festival Saturday and Sunday with Italian food, wine tastings, music and live performances. General admission is free. Saturday is listed for 11 AM–6 PM and Sunday noon–5 PM.
Stars of Texas Music Festival | Ennis — This is the big-ticket pick of the week: three nights at Texas Motorplex featuring Aaron Watson Friday, Brad Paisley Saturday and Travis Tritt Sunday, alongside racing, BBQ and other Texas-themed programming.
One more free market option
If shopping small is more your speed, the Night Market at The Boardwalk at Granite Park runs Friday from 6–10 PM in Plano with 15–30 local artisans, waterfront dining and free admission and parking.
Around here, lifestyle is part of the real-estate conversation
One reason I keep this list focused on the Mid-Cities and surrounding communities is that choosing where to live is about much more than the house itself. Parks, community events, restaurants, entertainment and the ability to actually enjoy your neighborhood all shape what living somewhere feels like.
I work throughout the Mid-Cities and greater DFW area, so if a move is on your radar, I’m always happy to help you compare communities as carefully as you compare homes.
