October is here, and DFW is kicking off the month with community events across the Mid-Cities and beyond. From a free art festival in Bedford and outdoor concerts in Grapevine and Arlington to family festivals, markets and cultural celebrations, there are plenty of ways to get out without turning the weekend into an expensive excursion.

Here are this week’s picks. If you missed the previous edition, catch up on [last weekend’s DFW Weekend Shortlist](https://blog.chrislynnre.com/en-us/dfw-real-estate-blog/dfw-weekend-shortlist-things-to-do-september-25-27-2026).

### Jr. Anglers | Euless

**Saturday, Oct. 3 | 9 a.m.–noon | Free**
Wilshire Park

Young anglers can bring their fishing poles and tackle boxes for a morning outdoors. Equipment is also available for use, with prizes for the largest fish in different age groups. [Jr. Anglers details](https://midcities.kidsoutandabout.com/content/euless-parks-annual-jr-anglers-0).

## Free & Outdoor Live Music in DFW

### Sunset Live! at the Gardens | Grapevine

**Friday & Saturday, Oct. 2–3 | 6–9:30 p.m.**
Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park, 411 Ball St.

**Why it fits:** An outdoor setting that works for a date night or a family evening.

### Grapevine Main LIVE! | Grapevine

**Friday & Saturday, Oct. 2–3 | 7:30–9:30 p.m. | Free**
Peace Plaza, 815 S. Main St.

Friday brings ToJo, a Toto and Journey tribute, while Saturday features Still The One, a Shania Twain tribute. The fall concert series is complimentary. [Saturday concert details](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/grapevine-main-live-still-the-one-shania-twain-tribute-tickets-1999557482256).

### Levitt Pavilion | Arlington

Friday’s free concert features Seger System, an Ultimate Bob Seger Tribute, with Gen X Blossoms, beginning at 7:10 p.m. Saturday’s 5th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration begins at 4 p.m. with a vendor market, live performances and music. [Friday concert](https://levittpavilionarlington.org/event/artist-to-be-announced-9/) and [Saturday celebration](https://levittpavilionarlington.org/event/5th-annual-hispanic-heritage-celebration/).

**Why it fits:** Two days of outdoor entertainment with no concert ticket required.

## Festivals, food + community

### GorettiFest | Arlington

**Saturday, Oct. 3 | 10 a.m.–8 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 4 | 10 a.m.–3 p.m. | Free admission**

This community festival features food representing cultures from around the world, live entertainment, carnival-style games, a petting zoo, bounce houses, vendors, a rummage sale and Touch-a-Truck. Food and games require tickets purchased onsite. [GorettiFest details](https://www.gorettifest.com/).

**Why it fits:** A broad all-ages festival option this weekend.

### Run in the Dark + Fall Market | Keller

**Saturday, Oct. 3 | 5–9 p.m.**
Keller Town Hall

Along with the paid 1-mile fun run and 5K, the evening includes a fall market, local vendors, food trucks, a live DJ and kid-friendly activities. Race fees are $25 for the fun run and $35 for the timed 5K; Kids Zone admission is separately priced. [Run in the Dark details](https://chamber.metroportchamber.org/events/details/run-in-the-dark-8099).

**Why it fits:** A mix of community, shopping, food and fall-evening atmosphere even if you aren’t running.

## Worth the drive

### Latinidad Festival | Dallas Arts District

**Saturday, Oct. 3 | 6–10 p.m. | Free (RSVP)**
Strauss Square, 2389 Flora St., Dallas

The AT&T Performing Arts Center’s fifth annual Latinidad Festival celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Latin American food, dance, music and culture in an outdoor, family-friendly setting. [Latinidad Festival details](https://attpac.org/event/latinidad-festival-2026).

**Why it’s worth the drive:** A combination of culture, food, live performance and free admission.

### Cottonwood Art Festival | Richardson

**Saturday, Oct. 3 | 10 a.m.–7 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 4 | 10 a.m.–5 p.m. | Free admission**

Cottonwood Park fills with fine art, live entertainment and food, while the ArtStop area gives younger visitors hands-on creative activities. Some children’s activities carry a fee. [Cottonwood Art Festival details](https://cottonwoodartfestival.com/information/).

**Why it’s worth the drive:** A Sunday option for anyone who wants art, rather than rides or attractions, at the center of the day.

## Christina’s Weekend Trio

If I were building a Saturday close to home, I’d start at Art at the Park in Bedford, head toward Grapevine for dinner, then finish outside with Grapevine Main LIVE! at Peace Plaza.

That gives you local art and makers, time outside, a meal and live music without spending the entire day driving across DFW.

## Life in the Mid-Cities

One of the things I enjoy about living and working in the Mid-Cities is how much is happening within a relatively small radius. Knowing a community means understanding what weekends actually look like when you live there: where neighbors gather, which places become family traditions and how easy it is to make a Saturday your own. That local perspective is part of what I bring to real estate, too. I’ll be back next week with another DFW Weekend Shortlist.
